A CULTURE Ministry study has come out in favour of building a new media complex for the state-owned Slovak Television (STV), Slovak Radio (SRo) and probably the TASR news agency as well.

The study showed that a new building would be the most effective way to solve problems relating to the media outlets' current buildings, the TASR newswire wrote.

A new building, to be built in the Pribinova zone, would lead to a long-term reduction in operating costs and create opportunities for a possible private investor, the study says. The building would also be designed to meet all the latest technical requirements.

Construction of a new media complex is expected to cost Sk2.6 billion (€78.2 million), while the STV and SRo would have to invest an additional Sk1.11 billion (€32.5 million) into equipment.

The cost of modernising and reconstructing the existing buildings could reach as much as Sk2.4 to 4.2 billion (€71 to 124.2 million), and moving the SRo into the reconstructed building would cost Sk1.9 to 2.5 billion (€56.2 to 74 million).

STV is located in Mlynská Dolina and Slovak Radio's inverted pyramid-shaped building is on Mýtna Street. The TASR building is on Pribinova Street.
