MPs postpone voting on Lisbon Treaty

During the Parliamentary session on Wednesday January 30th, Coalition MPs supported the proposal by Smer-SD MP Jana Lašáková to postpone the vote on the Lisbon Treaty until Thursday 5:00pm. Shortly before that, however, the Coalition voted down the proposal of opposition SDKU-DS MP Stanislav Janis to postpone the voting, after which opposition MPs left the chamber.

In order for the Treaty to be ratified, it needs the support of three-fifths of Parliament, or 90 MPs. Given that there are only 85 governing-coalition lawmakers, support from at least some opposition MPs is essential. TASR
