National anti-corruption unit examined 547 crimes last year

Out of these 357 were connected to corruption.

The National Anti-corruption Unit (NAKA) examined 547 crimes last year, of which 357 were linked with corruption. The number of accused in 2016 was 260 with 141 linked to corruption. The harm to the state budget was about €30 million.

Policemen uncovered corruption in health care, at universities, public procuration and provision of social services, as the head of the Police Forces, Tibor Gašpar informed.

Among the accused were a former MP Ján S., a mayor, workers at universities, employees of district offices as well as physicians.

The head of NAKA Peter Hraško mentioned several cases examined by NAKA. One of them was linked to the provision of EU funds. It involves 16 accused and damages of €930,000.

In another case, a controller of property and finance in Bratislava asked for a bribe of €5,000 for arranging a place in a senior’s house.

Within clarified crimes of accepting a bribe the total amounted to €338,000 last year. Bribes actually delivered amounted to €314,110.

In cases of clarified crimes of bribery €141,011 was offered and €57,161 actually given.
