Central bank governor Marián Jusko has fired the executive director of bank supervision at the National Bank of Slovakia for “shortcomings” in his work, and nominated in his place Michal Horváth, former president of the Deposit Protection Fund and a senior Finance Ministry official. The fired NBS employee, Tibor Kašiak, is the seventh NBS executive to be fired or transferred after last year’s crash of private bank Devín banka, and later revelations that the NBS had known Devín was lying about its health but had not acted to take its bank license.
