The number of lawfully sentenced and accused foreigners in Slovak prisons has increased slightly in the past few years.
There were 211 foreigners in Slovak prisons last year, while in 2013 there were 188 and the year later 177, the TASR newswire reported.
Altogether 217 foreigners were placed in Slovak prisons in May 2017. Of them, 143 were lawfully sentenced and 74 were accused with committing crimes, according to the annual report of the Justice and Prison Guard Department (ZVJS).
The most foreigners in Slovak prisons come from the Czech Republic (39 prisoners). Second come Romanians and Ukrainians (17 prisoners each), TASR reported.
