Parents often say, “Get off the computer, you are doing nothing on the internet!“ Instead of a long explanation of why it is extremely important to be online right now, show them a certificate from Google Digital Garage.
The project of the Digital Garage is nothing new; in Slovakia it has been functioning for more than one year but still is not as popular as it could be.
Digital Garage is an opportunity for everyone to get a certificate from the fields of advertising, marketing or web design. The whole educational plan is for free, the only required investment is time. Moreover, language is also not a barrier because all the videos needed for education are either in Slovak, with Slovak subtitles or translated.
“Many successful companies started in the ‘garage’ and that was the inspiration for us when creating the name,” said Michal Zachar, the marketing manager of Google for the Czech Republic and Slovakia, as quoted by Androidportal. “We will be glad if our Digital Garage will help to start businesses or careers and be successful.”
After logging in, there is the possibility to choose one of 23 topics or to go through one by one. The lectures progress from basic, such as browsing the internet and using e-mail to campaign, to advertising, social media or creating an online shop.
Digital Garage is part of the initiative “Pomáhame Slovensku rásť” (We help Slovakia grow). The aim of the project is to strengthen digital skills to the form as they are required in today’s labour market.
A successful graduate of the whole course gains a certificate recognized by IAB Europe (Interactive Advertising Bureau) which confirms advanced skills in the field of online marketing and helps (not only) students when searching for a job.
The Spectator College is a programme designed to support the study and teaching of English in Slovakia, as well as to inspire interest in important public issues among young people. The project was created by The Slovak Spectator in cooperation with their exclusive partner – the Leaf Academy.
