TOMEK Wolak of Poland has taken home the grand prize of €600 at the Skoč Sy 2010 (“Jump!”) snowboarding competition, followed by runners up Matej Matys of Slovakia and Martin Novák of the Czech Republic, the TASR newswire reported.
The competition, held at the Štrbské Pleso ski resort in the High Tatras at the beginning of February, drew top snowboarders from Slovakia, as well as from the neighbouring Czech Republic and Poland. The best six competitors received cash awards with a total value of €2,000.
The contest’s main event was a 13-metre jump called “Big Air”. Pole Jakub Skrzyphowsky won the prize in the Best Trick category for his double front-flip jump. During their runs, contestants were required to perform feats of increasing difficulty. The jury evaluated the competitors’ technique, the length and height of individual jumps, and the number of rotations .
