On March 7, the Hospodárske Noviny daily wrote that the growth of the average wage will bring about an increase of rewards paid to government officials.
Nevertheless, their income will still not be as high as that of many senior managers, although the general perception in society is that political representatives are paid too much.
The basic monthly salary paid to a member of parliament is calculated as three times the average wage in the national economy for the preceding year. Moreover, they receive a flat contribution equal 70 to 80 percent of the basic salary. Since the official average wage last year was Sk20,146, members of parliament will earn well over Sk100,000 per month this year. SITA
