IF PARLIAMENTARY elections in Slovakia were held at the end of February, MPs from six parties would make it to parliament and the largest winner would again be the social democratic party Smer, which would capture 43 percent of the votes. This is according to an opinion survey conducted by the MVK agency between February 20 and 27 among a representative sample of 1,100 respondents who were asked who they would vote for if parliamentary elections were held on the coming weekend, the SITA newswire reported.
The Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) party would receive support from 15.4 percent of the respondents and end up second. Coming in third is the Slovak National Party (SNS), which would garner the vote of 10.4 percent of the respondents.
The Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) would place fourth with support of 8.3 percent of the respondents and the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) would follow with 8.2 percent. The Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) had the support of 6.1 percent of the respondents.
More than 6 percent of those polled said they would definitely not vote in the elections and 19.4 percent said they were undecided which party they would support.
According to the results of this poll, the Smer party would hold 71 parliamentary mandates, the SDKÚ would have 25 and the SNS would have 17. The SMK would receive 14 mandates, the KDH would have 13 and HZDS party would have just 10 MPs, SITA reported.
