IF PARLIAMENTARY elections were held this weekend, the ruling Smer party would win and onetime ruling SDKÚ would fall out of parliament.
The main competitor of the ruling Smer party in an election would be the Sieť party of Radoslav Procházka, a Polis agency poll confirms. According to the poll, Smer would garner 35.8 percent of votes and thus 67 mandates in parliament, while Sieť would get about 16 percent and 31 parliamentary seats. In June, Sieť garnered 17.2 percent of the vote.
This latest poll has not reflected yet, however, the impact of a conflict between Procházka and leader of Ordinary People and Independent Personalities (OĽaNO) Igor Matovič concerning a secretly recorded conversation that indicated Procházka had likely sought to keep some of the spending for his presidential campaign off the books.
Most-Híd would come next among voters with 8.3 percent, followed by the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) with 7.7 percent, Party of Hungarian Community (SMK) with 6 percent and OĽaNO with 5.5 percent. The Slovak National Party (SNS), Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ), Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) and NOVA would not exceed the necessary threshold of 5 percent to make it into the national parliament.
