PRESIDENT Rudolf Schuster has not yet decided whether he will run again for the post of head of state, although he revealed that many people have tried to convince him to go for the position.

"Many people have rung me from various parts of the country. They are trying to convince me to run again. It was a nice surprise, but I have not made a final decision yet," Schuster said in an interview with the private news agency SITA.

Schuster is expected to announce whether he will run for the post during the coming week.

Speaker of parliament Pavol Hrušovský and other politicians, however, are convinced that the president will run again and have even speculated that the opposition party Smer may support his candidacy. Smer deputy chairman Dušan Čaplovič told the Slovak daily SME that his party had not made any such decision and was waiting for the president to say clearly whether or not he wants to run for the post.
