At its October 7 session, the Slovak Cabinet is expected to discuss a new funding model for science and research in Slovakia submitted by Education Minister Ján Mikolaj, the SITA newswire reported.
The two fields should receive more financial assistance from corporate sources and the proposal aims to create conditions for better cooperation of universities, the Slovak Academy of Sciences and the business sector in science and research.
The minister will submit a report on the situation in research and development in the Slovak Republic for the 2003-2007 period. The material concludes that Slovakia is among EU countries that earmark the lowest funds for R&D. In 2007, Slovakia gave 0.46 percent of the gross domestic product to R&D, compared with the EU average at 1.83 percent of GDP. SITA
