The Bratislava public transport company is changing the names of some of its stops. These will either better reflect their location or return them to their previous forms. This will be one of the biggest changes since the 1990s. It is valid as of Monday, March 12. The Bratislava Transport Company (DPB) explains the change as part of the efforts to make transport more transparent and orientation simpler.
“We have changed the names of some stops to more universal names and have removed some commercial names,” said DPB spokesperson Adriana Volfová, as cited by the TASR newswire.
As part of the changes, the Bratislava Transport Company (DPB) has corrected some names, for example from ‘Fatruny’ to ‘Fafruny’ or from ‘Na pantoch to ‘Na pántoch’, the www.imhd.sk website, dedicated to the Bratislava public transport company, informs.
Other changes follow the termination of agreements with companies on naming the stops after them. Under this change the name of, for example ‘Herlianska-OC Retro’ changes to ‘Herlianska’ or of ‘Gagarinova-Rádio Európa 2’ to ‘Gagarinova’.
The DPB has also changed some names in order that they better reflect their location. For example, as the Park of Culture and Leisure (Park kultúry - PKO) on the Danube embankment has been pulled down the Park kultúry stop has been changed to Kráľovské údolie after a nearby road. Another such change involves “Pri starom letisku” to OC Vajnory.
The transport company is also uniting the names of stops in selected localities used for changing lines. Thus the stop Legionárska has been changed to Krížna and the stops Odborárske nám. and Mickiewiczova have been given the joint name Americké nám.
