Re: Roma call plans for special officers racist, By Martina Pisárová, Jan 26 - Feb 1, Vol 10, No 3
As can be seen by the reluctance of Roman Catholics to join the new, supposedly "reformed" police service in Northern Ireland, introducing a new police organisation into a group with a special identity is a difficult task.
For any compromise to be achieved, all parties will have to reach a deal that involves the full participation of the Roma in the negotiations and the new organisation itself. I worry that this new force may have the same modus operandi as the hated "B" Specials in Northern Ireland, who persecuted minority nationalist and republican citizens.
