In the past, the work of architects was mainly evaluated on the basis of the important public buildings they left behind, such as theatres, schools or offices. Nowadays, architects rarely have such an opportunity.
However, one such opportunity arose when the Government Office announced a tender for new building in the vicinity of Štefánikova Street.
Half a year later, the winning proposal is known. The demanding task was fulfilled by architects Milan KiaÄŤek and Matúš KiaÄŤek. With a clearly readable design and in response to the complex context of the environment, their proposal for a relatively simple and unobtrusive pavilion building convinced the jury.
"The role of the new building is not to compete with the meaning of the existing architecture, but to complement it, to offer quality with a dose of humility," said the jury.
The Government Office anticipates the start of the construction work at the beginning of 2025. "First, a contract will have to be concluded with the winner of the tender, then the project will be prepared, which will take approximately one year, then the tender for the contractor will be in order, followed by the start of the work," explains Peter Majer, the Prime Minister's spokesman.
