As of November 1, an amendment to the Road Traffic Act came into effect, bringing with it several big changes, the Sme daily wrote on Wednesday, November 2.
Sme reported that people under 18 can now learn to drive if supervised by an adult who has at least one year’s driving experience. On the day of their driving test, applicants must be at least 17 years old. Adults supervising young drivers must observe all the rules normally applicable to drivers, in particular those applying to alcohol consumption.
Other changes include a new obligation to observe a fixed distance between vehicles while driving on highways, changes to rights of way, an obligation for pedestrians to cede right of way to trams, and the obligation to clean one's car of snow and ice.
