Leading opposition SDKÚ-DS party MP Stanislav Janiš on March 12 blasted the Government's handling of European Union funds earmarked for Slovakia in the 2007-13 period.

According to Janiš, past developments relating to EU funds indicate that the Slovak Government has been ill-prepared for drawing funds in 2007-13. A conflict continues between the governing-coalition Smer-SD and the Slovak National Party (SNS) over who will administer most of the Sk400 billion (€12.37 billion) in funds for Slovakia, the TASR newswire wrote.

This conflict coupled with Parliament's belated adoption of documentation and a shortage of an administrative staff has meant that not one single call was made for the submission of projects in 2007. The Construction Ministry has made its first call for the Schools Infrastructure Operating Programme this year, but that was botched, said Janiš. TASR
