The opposition SDKÚ-DS party said on January 7 that it intends to file a new parliamentary no-confidence vote on PM Robert Fico over allegedly suspicious land deals.
The deals in question concern a controversial land restitution order issued by the Slovak Land Fund, and Fico's purchase of a vineyard in Bratislava at a fraction of its real market value.
SDKÚ caucus chief Stanislav Janis said that the party would seek an extraordinary parliamentary session in order to enlighten citizens on the prime minister’s conduct. The first SDKÚ-initiated no-confidence motion in the PM was convened on December 6, but the party walked out of the parliamentary chamber in protest at the late time scheduled for the event - 7 p.m. The SDKÚ vice-chairman Milan Hort said at the time that the ruling Coalition may well be afraid of the debate on recalling the PM, which is why it goes into session at night when "only thieves play their trade."
The opposition KDH will support this repeated SDKÚ-DS proposal, KDH executive decided on January 7, as will the ethnic Hungarian SMK. SMK spokesperson Eva Dunajská added that the details would be agreed at a meeting of opposition parties early next week. TASR
