A WEEK-long festival of Slovak modern avant-garde art called SLOFFEST 2010 was held in Krakow, Poland in mid April.
This is the second year of the festival, which is prepared by the General Consulate of the Slovak Republic in Poland in cooperation with the Polish Lokator club and the prestigious theatre Piwnica Pod Baranami.
Over the six days of the festival, documentaries such as Cooking History and 66 Seasons by famous Slovak director Peter Kerekes were screened; an exhibition of photographs by Juraj Kováčik from his cycle Bratislava-Vienna was on show; and there were concerts by the bands Med, Hvozd and Kvety Nikotínu along with a theatre performance by Clipperton from Banská Bystrica.
The Lokator club, which has cooperated with the Slovak General Consulate in Krakow in organising the event in each year, was recently deemed the best club in Krakow this year by the Gazeta Wyborcza daily.
The SLOFFEST festival features avant-garde Slovak art that has attracted much interest among Polish audiences, especially students.
The TASR newswire wrote that the festival is becoming a modern and interesting form of promotion for Slovakia to its curious neighbours to the north.
