NEARLY 60 percent of citizens trust the Slovak police, according to a poll conducted by the Slovak Statistics Bureau in October this year. The result is 5.7 percentage points higher than that of a similar survey carried out one year ago.
The poll, which questioned 1,295 respondents, showed not only that 59.1 percent of Slovaks have confidence in the police, but that people also feel much safer. Some 68.3 percent of those polled said they felt safe in their homes thanks to the police, which is up 10.1 percentage points year-on-year, the Hospodárske Noviny wrote.
People are also increasingly satisfied with the work of police officers. More than half of the respondents in the poll (58.8 percent) said they were satisfied with the job done by the police.
The higher public approval rating regarding the police is being reflected in an increased willingness to cooperate with law enforcement organs, a police spokesman said.
