The prices of goods and services in Slovakia as measured by national methodology rose by an average of 1 percent for the entire year of 2010 when compared to the preceding year, Slovakia's Statistics Office announced on January 14, as reported by the TASR newswire.
The overall increase was mainly due to a 5.7-percent increase in the prices of tobacco and alcohol, followed by price rises in education and health care of 4.5 percent and 3.7 percent, respectively. Prices of furniture as well as footwear and clothing dropped over the same period by an average of 3.7 percent and 1.3 percent, respectively.
In December 2010 the inflation rate reached 1.3 percent on a yearly basis and had increased by 0.3 percent month-on-month. On the same day, the Statistics Office released figures on the inflation rate as calculated according to EU methodology. Average EU-harmonised inflation in 2010 was 0.7 percent. Prices in December 2010 had increased 1.3 percent on a yearly basis and by 0.2 percent month-on-month.
