The German citizen was found carrying the drug in his car last August, the SITA newswire wrote. At that time, he was visiting the parents of his Slovak wife. The man submitted medical reports on his medical condition to the court and argued that he used hashish to suppress pain and that he did not distribute the drug. He could have faced ten or more years in jail had it been proved that he had sold or offered the drug to minors from the Roma settlement where the police detained him. However, the court decided that that would be too harsh a penalty.

The judge also took into account the offender’s regret for his crime and his previously unsullied criminal record. The verdict has not yet taken effect, and neither the prosecutor nor the defendant issued any public reaction. The verdict can be appealed within a term set by law.
