Slovak National Party (SNS) chairman Ján Slota said on February 16 that the departure of MP Anton Korba from the SNS parliamentary caucus is “no big loss” for the party, the TASR newswire reported.
Slota does not believe that Korba walked out of SNS as claimed in protest at problems regarding the accreditation of St. Elizabeth's University for Healthcare and Social Work in Bratislava.
“The truth is completely different. I fully trust my Education Minister Ján Mikolaj. The real reasons behind Korba's actions are certainly someone's business interests,” he said.
Slota added that SNS will not demand that Korba return his MP's mandate. “It would be pointless, as he wouldn't give it back anyway. I'm a pragmatist. I always say that I'm not much of a politician, because a politician is first and foremost a good liar, but I can't lie,” he claimed.
Korba is also chairman of the parliamentary committee for supervising the activities of the National Security Office (NBÚ). This post belongs to SNS, but it's still unclear whether Korba will lose his chairmanship as there isn't much time left until the parliamentary elections in June. TASR
