Parliament's committee on incompatibility of functions launched proceedings on Wednesday, September 2, against Slovak National Party leader Ján Slota regarding two complaints made by Transparency International Slovakia (TIS) even though two MPs could not attend the meeting due to a mistake made by the committee's chair, the TASR newswire wrote.
The two MPs, Ján Senko (Smer-SD) and Ľudmila Mušková (ĽS-HZDS) protested that they could not attend the meeting due to a scheduling clash with the culture and media committee that they are also members of. Senko said that the committee on incompatibility of functions chair Agnes Biró is also a member of the culture and media committee and must have known of the scheduling conflict but called the meeting anyway. MP Renata Zmajkovičová (Smer) proposed postponing the meeting, but the committee refused due to concerns that the complaint against Slota would become invalid.
TIS complained on August 3 about Slota's July 23 trip to Croatia in a private plane owned, allegedly, by Financial Public Services – a company co-owned by Katarína Kubanová, wife of Norbert Havalec, whom Plus Jeden Den daily connects with the controversial sale of emission quota to Interblue Group. The second complaint from TIS involves information in the media that Slota flew a private Delfin jet under suspicious circumstances, TASR wrote.
“Both complaints are nothing but new attacks against Ján Slota and are based on inaccurate and biased information from the media,” said SNS MP Milada Belásová who also said that Biro called on TIS to fill in the blanks in its complaints before the Committee's meeting.
“By doing so you (Biró) have, in my view, violated the meeting's proceedings,” Belásová said. She added that SNS leader Slota otherwise has no problem with answering the committee's questions.TASR
