Slovakia recorded a state budget surplus of €98 million in January compared with an €18 million deficit in January 2011, the Finance Ministry announced on February 1, as reported by the TASR newswire. The state's total revenue in the month was €1.02 billion and expenditure was €922 million. The planned deficit for 2012 is €3.675 billion with revenue of €13.625 billion and expenditure of €17.3 billion.
"The current black figures are thanks to a 23-percent rise in revenue, while the increase in expenditures stood at close to 9 percent," ministry spokesman Martin Jaroš told TASR, adding that a number of specific items on both the revenue and the expenditure sides of the budget were observed in January.
"The revenue side was influenced by one-off effects such as the suspension of the due date on income tax on corporate entities from the end of December to early January as well as by a lower reimbursement of VAT payments, because some of the reimbursement payments that were originally due in January were actually carried out in December," Jaroš stated, as quoted by TASR.
