Statistics Office reports on nominal wages

This January, the average nominal monthly wage exceeded the level of January of last year in all selected sectors of the Slovak economy.

This January, the average nominal monthly wage exceeded the level of January of last year in all selected sectors of the Slovak economy.

The Statistics Office reported that the nominal wage grew the most in the postal service sector, where it rose by 16.5 percent. It also reported that the growth of nominal wages in the sector of real estate, rental, trade activities and other services was 12.8 percent, in transport 8.3 percent, in industry 8.1 percent, in car sale and maintenance sector 8 percent, in construction sector 7.2 percent, in retail sector 5.8 percent, in the wholesale sector 4.9 percent, and in telecommunications sector 4.6 percent. The slowest nominal wage growth of 4.4 percent was in hotels and restaurants in the first month of this year.

Real wages grew by 12.2 percent in the postal service sector, 8.7 percent in the sector of real estate, rental, trade, and other services, 4.3 percent in transport, 4.1 percent in industry, and 4 percent in car sale and maintenance sector.

The construction sector posted an increase of 3.3 percent, retail business 1.9 percent, wholesale business 1.1 percent, telecommunications sector 0.8 percent and hotels and restaurants 0.6 percent. In January, employees in the telecommunication sector received the highest average nominal monthly wage of Sk44,896. The average nominal wage in real estate, rental, trade activities and other services was Sk23,457, in industry it was Sk20,877, in transport it was Sk20,071, in car sale and maintenance sector it was Sk19,411, in wholesale business it was Sk19,108, in postal service sector it was Sk15,982, in construction sector it was Sk15,379 and in retail sector it was Sk13,906.

Employees of hotels and restaurants had the lowest average monthly wage of Sk10,669. SITA
