THE US government will provide $6 million (Sk190 million) in military aid to Slovakia, its coalition partner in Iraq, the US Embassy in Slovakia reported.

The money comes from the Coalition Solidarity Fund, which was created by the US Congress in May to provide support to the coalition partners in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The exact use of the military assistance will be determined in consultations between the US and the Slovak governments.

This new amount is in addition to other security assistance funding that Slovakia already receives from the United States, which totals about $7 million (€5.7 million) for the 2005 fiscal year.

In Iraq, Slovakia has an army engineering unit (sappers) of some 100 troops that is helping repair the infrastructure damaged in the US-led war that ousted Saddam Hussein two years ago.
