The Visegrad Four countries (Slovakia, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Poland) and Slovenia, began a two-day meeting in Bojnice (Trenčín region) to discuss topics of common concern vis-á-vis the European Union.
Slovak Parliamentary European Affairs Committee chairman Milan Urbáni, who hosted the event, listed among the topics to be discussed the entry of new EU members into Schengen zone, EU institutions, the stalled European constitutional treaty and EU tax policies. Slovenia was present to offer its experience on euro adoption.
According to Urbáni, the Visegrad Four group wields considerable influence in the European Union, which is why it should present a united front on reform of EU institutions and the constitution. Slovakia, which already ratified the original draft of the constitution, and the Czech Republic are in favour of adopting it, while Poland and Hungary have some reservations. TASR
