THE FOREIGN ministers of the Visegrad Group (V4) of Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary, sent on March 5 a letter to High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton and EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle to launch preparations for signing the association treaty and a free trade agreement with Ukraine without delay.
Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák initiated the process, the TASR newswire reported.
Lajčák, János Martonyi (Hungary), Radoslaw Sikorski (Poland) and Lubomír Zaorálek (the Czech Republic) based their call on the decision of the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius in November 2013 to sign the treaties when Ukraine is ready. Moreover, the new Ukrainian government announced on February 26 that it wants to sign the deal as soon as possible.
