Work starts on D1-highway tunnel of 687 metres in Žilina

The 11-kilometres of D1 highway section Hričovské Podhradie – Lietavská Lúčka will include a tunnel. On November 5 work on a two-tube tunnel in Žilina, to be 687 metres long, began.

The 11-kilometres of D1 highway section Hričovské Podhradie – Lietavská Lúčka will include a tunnel. On November 5 work on a two-tube tunnel in Žilina, to be 687 metres long, began.

The tunnel should be finished at the turn of 2015 and 2016, while the whole section should be finished by beginning 2018 and it should cost €427 million without VAT; the contribution for the EU funds amounts to more than €375.8 million. Doprastav CEO Juraj Androvič told the SITA newswire that the building of the tunnel will be demanding because of specific clay subsoil in the cadastre of the Žilina borough of Bánová.
