PRESIDIUM Council of the opposition party Most-Híd elected ex-justice minister and former prominent Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) member Lucia Žitňanská to the post of party vice-chair in its May 31 session.
Also on the agenda was an evaluation of the 2014 European Parliament election results and preparation for the municipal elections slated for autumn.
"I'm convinced that there are a lot of people in Slovakia who, aside from Smer and the seemingly strengthening conservative offer, also wish to see a civic offer - the offer of a civic party, set to reach out to voters with a programme that puts emphasis on socio-economic issues, the judiciary and equality before the law, regardless of origin, nationality or religious beliefs," said Žitňanská at a press conference following her election, as quoted by the TASR newswire.
Žitnanská is due to replace Rudolf Chmel as party vice-chair, a change to be approved by the party congress in September.
Most-Híd chair Béla Bugár perceives the European election result in a highly positive light.
"I, for one, believe that the party is stronger, as we managed to gain one MEP seat," he said, as quoted by TASR. József Nagy is to become the first-ever Most-Híd MEP.
