The construction company Strabag will construct the National Football Stadium (NFS) in Bratislava. It won a competition for the work with a bid of €59.77 million including VAT, the TASR newswire reported.
The construction firm has also signed a contract with the investor of the project, the NFS company. The works should be completed by the beginning of 2018 at the latest.
This means that the new stadium will be used nine years after then (and current) Prime Minister Robert Fico promised its completion for the first time, the Denník N daily reported.
The original estimate for the job was €54 million including VAT. Apart from Strabag, there were two other bidders in the tender: Metrostav, bidding €71.65 million including VAT, and a consortium of companies AVA–stav and Váhostav, which was excluded from the tender for non-compliance with the conditions of technical competence. As a result, the latter’s bid was not even opened, TASR wrote.
The new football stadium will be built on the site of the former Bratislava stadium and will have a seating capacity of more than 22,000. It should meet the strictest parameters for top football competitions, Denník N wrote.
The daily calculated that the total price of the construction, when adding also the costs of its equipment, will be €75 million, which is the most the state is willing to pay.
The state has committed itself to complete the construction and to purchase the non-commercial portion of the stadium. Moreover, the state will provide NFS with a subsidy worth €27.2 million, but this will be deducted from the eventual purchase price that the state will pay to NFS, TASR reported.
Slovan Bratislava football club – whose board of directors chair is tycoon Ivan Kmotrík, who originally was going to build the stadium but gave up part way through when the state took over the project – is a shareholder of NFS.
