All Slovaks know the folk song Na Kráľovej Holi. The lyrics of the song at the beginning say that a green tree grows on top of Kráľová Hoľa (mountain in the Low Tatras).
It was not true for decades since the mountain is “bald” and only grass grows at the top. However, that is history. Some jokers planted a little spruce several metres from the peak.
They hiked up to the hill with a spruce. The weather was windy and it was raining on top, as we see in the video, but it did not stop them from planting the tree. They added a sign in front of the tree saying “Strom zelený”, meaning "green tree" as in the song.
The mountain is part of the Low Tatras National Park, where it is forbidden to interfere with the natural environment. Environmentalists made an exception because of the symbolic meaning, Spiš Korzár wrote.
