Producers will be obliged to recycle appliances from 2005
FROM AUGUST 2005, distributors and producers of home appliances in Slovakia will have to ensure that 75 percent of their no-longer functional products are recycled.This commitment derives from the European Union directive on electric and electrotechnical waste.Producers are obliged to fulfil this commitment with their own organisation and finances.

THE PIPELINE system in Slovakia crosses precious natural territories protected by the state. Officials unruffled
SLOVAK officials remained unruffled when commenting on the annual country report on human rights released by the US State Department last week, which massively criticises discrimination against the Roma, mentioning concrete cases of reported mistreatment.Problem areas targeted in the report include police brutality, racially motivated attacks by citizens, anti-Semitism, and the trafficking of women.However, the report also acknowledges the government's steps in addressing some problems.
Best films keep on invading
THE LAST part of the Lord of the Rings trilogy predictably led the 76th Annual Academy Awards by winning the largest number of Oscars. It won in all 11 categories it was nominated, including the event's most prestigious award: Best Picture. The crew behind the Best Foreign Language Film, Les invasions barbares (The Barbarian Invasions), thus could only happily conclude that The Lord of The Rings: The Return of the King did not qualify in this category, as well.
