Companies get friendly

CORPORATE social responsibility is only at the beginning of its path in Slovakia. Large companies with foreign capital usually have included this strategy in their corporate policy, but the Slovak business sector and the general public are still looking for ways to support society.Companies already involved in assistance programmes and the non-governmental sector as a whole declare that it should be natural for businesses to participate in some form of charity.

Are the nationalists finished?

THE SLOVAK National Party (SNS) could perhaps benefit from EU entry more than any other party. It remains to be seen whether the extremist nationalists come to realise the opportunity, or waste all their energy on internal hassles, letting others ride the wave of nationalist sentiment.Throughout its history, the SNS has had one primary aim - to protect the interests of ethnic Slovaks. Given Slovakia's turbulent history, the party often found wide support for its programme.

Detroit techno - a Pohoda treat

ONE of the founders of electronic dance music, Carl Craig, graced the stage of the Pohoda festival on July 17.A member of Detroit's second wave of techno composers, Craig began his career as a producer and DJ more than 15 years ago under the influence of techno "godfathers" such as Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson. Recorded under a number of aliases and his own name, Craig's music has shaped the development of dance music genres as varied as drum'n'bass and house.

Tatralandia, near Liptovský Mikuláš, is the largest water park in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Poland.The aqua park sits atop a natural thermal spring that gushes forth from a depth of more than 2,500 metres.
