PR group presses quality button
IN AN EFFORT to comply with international quality standards set by a powerful umbrella organization for public relations firms, the trade association for PR agencies in Slovakia, APRSR, promised that all of its members would obtain "certificates of quality" by the end of 2005.
Belarus opposition visits Slovakia; the SMK promises help
Slovakia's ruling Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) welcomed the Belarussian opposition party, the Civic and Popular Front, to Bratislava on November 15.

Festival travels on with Ewart's films
THE ONE World festival ended in Bratislava but continues its tour through other Slovak regions (see www.jedensvet.sk). Though each destination makes its own selection, several will screen the strong human tragedies narrated in This World: Access to Evil and the Children of Beslan, two films made by the investigative BBC journalist of Polish origin, Ewa Ewart, who was visiting Slovakia for the first time.
Spain slaps Slovakia out of World Cup dream
THE RAIN in Spain may stay mainly in the plain, but even the country's parched urban football grounds get a drop occasionally.An unexpected cold shower in Madrid on November 12 - with the downpour moving to Bratislava for the return match four days later - extinguished Slovakia's hopes of qualifying for the 2006 World Cup of football in Germany.

REAL expenditures on advertising in all types of media reached approximately 6.35 billion (€160 million) in 2004. Spending on public relations activities represented almost Sk3.27 billion (€80 million).

"WHEN we talk of the Holocaust today we have in mind the historical period when Jews and other ethnicities were killed. But we forget there are similar attempts directed on other religions, nations and other groups, also today," said Pavol Mešťan, director of the Museum of Jewish Culture in Bratislava.
One World makes you care
ON THE SAME day that Slovakia mourned the death of a student brutally killed by a band of skinheads, the One World festival opened in Bratislava. The November 9 event, started by People in Peril's director Andrej Bán, is designed to raise awareness on ethnic conflicts and human rights violations in countries far away.
Slovakia and Wales trace poetry threads
ARS Poetica, the international poetry festival that took place in Bratislava from November 2 to 12, featured poets from 14 countries. The first evening saw four British poets reading their works, among them Robert Minhinnick. The highlight of the opening ceremonies was the launch of the latest edition of Poetry Wales.
SDKÚ near bottom in latest poll
IF PARLIAMENTARY elections had been held in late October, victory would go to main opposition party Smer, according to an opinion poll conducted by the MVK agency.
