Political survival dearer than fragile coalition unions
NEITHER Mikuláš Dzurinda nor Pavol Hrušovský has insisted on resuscitating the fragile union of the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) and the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) before general elections now scheduled for June 17.
Crisis leaves buyers in privatization limbo
THE DOWNFALL of Slovakia's ruling coalition has left the fate of several privatization projects in limbo, spelling nervous times both for potential buyers and state sellers.After being abandoned by his coalition partner, the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH), Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda announced on February 7 that henceforth no privatization project would be discussed by the cabinet.

A POLICE investigator with the Organized Crime Bureau charged six people with fraud on February 7 - including several with ties to a former government party - alleging they had stripped almost Sk1 billion (€30million) in assets from the failed financial institution Devín banka from 1998 to 2001.
