Energy-efficient buildings get an A
STARTING in January, building owners who want to rent or sell their building will need an energy performance certificate to confirm its energy efficiency.An energy performance certificate tells you how energy efficient a home is, on a scale of A to G. The most efficient homes - which should have the lowest fuel bills - get a rating of A.
Cross-country highway tender rolling ahead
AFTER plenty of discussion, the largest tender in the history of Slovakia is now rolling forward.The Transportation Ministry released the public-private partnership (PPP) tender for the first package of highway sections on the European Union Official Journal's public procurement website on November 17, inviting companies and consortiums to submit their bids by January 8.

ASSOCIATED Western Universities (AWU) awards Graduate Fellowships to qualified Master's and doctoral degree candidates in science, mathematics, engineering and technology. These fellowships let students conduct their thesis or dissertation research, explore research and technology career options, or gain practical training at a sponsoring facility.
Jobless rate hits record low in October
THE REGISTERED jobless rate in Slovakia shrank by 0.38 percentage points over October, reaching 7.92 percent at the end of the month. That was a drop of 1.35 percentage points from October 2006, according to the National Labour, Social Affairs and Family Office.

PRIME Minister Robert Fico added more fuel to the fire of the ruling coalition crisis when he called on Agriculture Minister Miroslav Jureňa, a nominee of the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia party (HZDS), to step down for what he called an indisputable political responsibility for the land transfer scandal.
High electricity prices here to stay
RECENT changes to the electricity market are changing Slovakia from an electricity producer to an electricity importer. They have also given Slovaks little hope of paying less for electricity in the near future.
