CONCERT: PERSONAL Suite, the recently released album by Slovak jazz saxophonist Nikolaj Nikitin, will be promoted with a national tour starting at Kafe Scherz, at the corner of Partizánska and Palisády in Bratislava, on April 5. Nikitin’s current band comprises renowned jazzmen of all generations: Gabriel Jonáš on piano, Jozef Döme on drums and Juraj Griglák on bass – as well as the unique Nikitin himself.

LIVE MUSIC: Juraj Griglák & Poogie Bell Band - The faces of Funk Jazz – Famous Slovak bass player Griglák joins forces with this US band which formerly accompanied legendary bassist Marcus Miller (and has also played gigs with David Bowie, Al Jarreau and Roberta Flack). The band consists of Poogie Bell (drums), Michael “Patches” Stewart (trumpet), Bobby Sparks (keyboard) and Keith Anderson (saxophone).

CHOIR MUSIC: Joseph Haydn: Sieben Worte / Seven Last Words of Our Saviour on the Cross – A musical contemplation in the week preceding Easter, performed by the Technik choir and the ZOE Christian Chamber Orchestra, and conducted by Rastislav Štúr. The choirmaster is Iveta Viskupová.

CLASSICAL MUSIC: Giuseppe Verdi: Requiem - The famous piece by Italian composer is perceived as sacral and often performed at liturgies or special occasions. Slovak National Theatre offers two performances this Easter, with famous Italian conductor Nello Santi and Adriana Marfisi (soprano), Terézia Kružliaková (mezzo-soprano), Miroslav Dvorský (tenor) and Jozef Benci (bas).

EXHIBITION:The exhibition Obrazy a fotografie / Pictures and Photographs at the Vojtech Löffler Museum, Alžbetina 20 in Košice, is presented in cooperation with the Bratislava Czech Centre and brings the paintings, drawings and photos of one of the Czech Republic’s key contemporary artists, Antonín Střížek. Curated by Martin Dostál, the exhibition runs until April 22, opening on Tuesdays to Saturdays 10:00-18:00 and on Sundays 13:00-17:00.

CHOIR MUSIC: Anton Bruckner - Requiem – During a mass for the souls of the deceased, a concert by Košice State Theatre (SDKE) soloists L. Knoteková (soprano), G. Hübnerová (alto), J. Dvorský (tenor) and M. Gurbaľ (bass), and a choir conducted by Igor Dohovič, will offer Bruckner’s symbolic piece.
