WHO says you can’t change history? Sure you can. Or you can at least whitewash it (vybieliť). That’s exactly what happened in a hospital in Nitra, where the boss of the children’s clinic erased the medical records of a child whose parents suspect the doctors of overdosing and nearly killing their newborn.
In another case, the police have refused to release a recording from a patrol car which captured the cops shooting at an automobile, which was mistakenly included in a database of suspect vehicles. The Interior Ministry claimed that the camera was in “test mode”, so it cannot be considered as evidence. It now appears they have deleted the video altogether. It is little surprise that the internal investigation found no wrong-doing by the officers.
Slovak billionaire Andrej Babiš, who now leads the Czech ANO movement, says he never collaborated with the communist secret police. His personal file was shredded long ago, so it’s hard to say what, exactly, he did. But newly released remaining documents clearly indicate his active involvement with the spy agency. He says they are not true.
Government Office spokesperson Erik Tomáš won the Golden Raspberry for the worst spokesperson. But he intimidated the award’s organisers until they overruled the jury’s decision, and suddenly, he is no longer its holder.
And these are just examples from the last few days. Obviously, if you are in power, you have little reason to worry about what you do today. You can always rewrite it tomorrow.
