An ex-MP and former Prievidza area top official of the ruling Smer party, Vladimír Jánoš, was found not guilty of abusing a close and entrusted person, the Trenčín Regional Court ruled at a non-public session on July 18.
He had been accused of mentally abusing his wife and young daughter and threatening his wife with physical violence.

The court dismissed the prosecutor’s complaint against the first-instance decision of the Prievidza District Court, Roman Tarabus – spokesman for the courts in the Trenčín region – told the TASR newswire.

“The senate of the regional court at a non-public session dismissed the prosecutor’s complaint against a ruling of the Prievidza District Court because it concluded that it was unfounded,” Tarabus explained.
Previous verdicts acquitted him…
The Prievidza District Court decided in October 2017 that the criminal case should be passed to the District Office in Prievidza, ruling that a criminal offence had not taken place but a misdemeanour may have been committed. Jánoš had been facing the charge since March 2015. After his conflicts with his wife – now divorced – became highly publicised, he resigned from his position in Smer.

The decision of the Trenčín Regional Court is final and the file will be passed to the Prievidza District Office’s general internal administration department, according to Tarabus.
