As soon as Slovak National Party leader and Deputy Speaker Andrej Danko opened a transparent account because of his candidacy in this year’s presidential election, the politician started receiving hundreds of small donations.
Funny messages accompanied donations worth €0.01 and €0.02.
“Buy a new ABC book”, “for a one-way trip to Mars”, “for plane tickets to Russia to see beloved Putin”, “to repair the traffic light. P.S.: Please return the money if you don’t win the election” and many others, writes the news website Aktuality.sk.
Danko admires the Russian president. In January, he crashed his car into a traffic light pole and left the scene without calling the police. Slovaks also make fun of him because he sometimes has trouble expressing a thought that would make sense. In the debating chamber, he recently turned a female opposition MP into a man and added a swear word to her name.
Danko’s team decided they didn’t want money sent with ironic messages. On Thursday, February 15, the team started sending the symbolic amounts back to the donors’ accounts. According to the transparent account, they have already returned more than 1,100 of them. Only on payments of one cent, Danko returned €9.83.
