Former general prosecutor Dobroslav Trnka, who is still working as a prosecutor at the General Prosecutor’s Office, may leave his office for some time. He said so after a transcript of the 2014 recording was published by the Denník N daily, in which Trnka is heavily featured.
"I will say how I will proceed in the next few days," Trnka told the TASR newswire on October 15.
The recording suggests how controversial businessman Marian Kočner, who is facing several charges, including forgery and ordering the murder of a journalist, threatened Trnka.
Kočner yelled at Trnka and treated him badly because he had tried to blackmail the co-owner of the Penta financial group, Jaroslav Haščák, with a recording related to the Gorilla case released in late 2011. The latter file, in which Haščák appears, uncovers alleged political corruption.
"Based on the information I have, the recording is being examined by experts," Trnka added, as quoted by TASR. "Therefore, I cannot comment on its authenticity."
Trnka also said he will be of full assistance to investigators in the case concerning the recording.
Casting doubt on authenticity
Despite his previous claim, Trnka later cast doubt on the veracity of the recording of the conversation between him and Kočner in an interview with the private broadcaster TV Markíza.
