A TOTAL of 96.3 percent of Internet users in Slovakia consider the web to be a basic source of information when searching for full-time or part-time jobs, according to a study called "Job and Education Offers on the Internet," which was carried out by the TNS SK agency in July 2006 on a sample of 675 Internet users.
Out of those surveyed, 43 percent consider the advertisement sections in newspapers and specialised printed media supplements to be a significant source when searching for job offers. Only 28 percent of those polled turned to recruitment agencies for help in finding a job.
The results of the study also indicate that personal contacts play an important role for job seekers. However, only 24.3 percent of respondents obtained information about vacancies through family or friends. Only 9.5 percent of Internet users visited an employment office, and only 2.8 percent made use of special events on the labour market.
There are roughly 20 Slovak Internet portals where job offers and practical information on human resources and the labour market are available. The most popular portal is profesia.sk, which was visited by 69.6 percent of the Internet users polled. Another 32 percent mentioned the employment portal praca.sk.
