Kaliňák: Gorilla will not be resolved before election

The Gorilla corruption scandal dating back to Mikuláš Dzurinda’s second government (2002-06) won’t be resolved before the March 5 general election said Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák.

If police presented any findings before the election, many would describe it as an unfair move, as the scandal concerned mainly the current opposition, Kaliňák said on the TA3 political chat show ‘V Politike’ (In Politics) on January 31.

One problem with the scandal is that it was not properly investigated under then-prime minister Iveta Radičová (2010-2012), bemoaned Kaliňák. He added that police need to follow trails as soon as possible, otherwise it becomes difficult to catch the bad guys.

Radičová’s erstwhile justice minister Lucia Žitňanská, also on the programme, maintained that if the police inspectorate (now under the Interior Ministry) would have been more independent, the investigation would have progressed faster, regardless of the alleged complexity of the case.
