Lajčák: Hard Brexit is the worst scenario

Foreign Affairs Minister claims Slovakia is prepared for it, though.

It is unclear for now what form Brexit will take. Slovakia is counting with every option, according to the head of its diplomacy.

"We are ready for hard Brexit, the worst-case scenario," said Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák, as quoted by the TASR newswire.

If the UK decides to leave without a deal, there will be no agreements between the United Kingdom and the EU or its member states. The effects on the Slovak economy are expected to be minimal, Lajčák said.

"I was assured that the status of our citizens in Britain will not be affected," TASR quoted the minister as saying. However, he admitted that it is not clear now what status Slovaks leaving for Britain after Brexit would have.
