Last Week in Slovakia: Expat killed in a street attack

Henry Acorda, a 36-year-old Filipino expat, succumbed to the injuries inflicted by Slovak citizen Juraj Hossu. The attacker punched Acorda to the ground and kicked him repeatedly, including the head. Hossu has been charged with manslaughter and is behind bars now. The attack has prompted the Slovak public to protest against violence in the streets. In Bratislava, the protest was called off due to the unfavourable weather conditions.

Milan Lucansky will replace Tibor Gaspar as Police Corps president. There are doubts about his assets and his investigation of the mafia. Just like Gaspar, Lucansky is considered to be a man with close ties to former interior minister Kalinak.

A team of Slovak scientists introduced a new degradable plastic made from frying oil. It will decompose even in household compost at temperatures around 20-30 degrees. It can be used for the production of cutlery, containers or foils, and in health care as fracture implants.
