Following the attack on Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer) in mid-May, some supporters of the current ruling coalition began demanding the dissolution of the opposition party, for example, on social networks. They have accused the PS party of contributing to the attack on the premier with its criticism of the coalition and protests.

"The Office will get the documents needed to check if the general prosecutor can file a lawsuit to dissolve the political party," said the Office's spokesperson Jana Tökölyová, as quoted by the SITA news agency.

PS leader Michal Šimečka said on June 4 that PS is a democratic party and was voted for by over 530,000 citizens. He also added that he hopes that the general prosecutor will resolve this issue as soon as possible.

"If the general prosecutor tried to intervene in it [EP elections] in any way, he would be skating on very, very thin ice," Šimečka added.

General Prosecutor Maroš Žilinka responded by saying that he has always followed the law, consistently "rejecting any influence and interests" and safeguarding the public interest. Žilinka has been criticised for the lack of communication, excessive use of Section 363 to cancel charges in high-profile corruption cases, and his support for abolishing the Special Prosecutor's Office.
