Implementation of the law on minimum salaries for nurses and midwives is accompanied with chaos, said Mária Lévyová, the chair of the Chamber of Nurses, while adding that it is now too early to say who is violating the new law that came into effect on April 1 and who is not, the SITA newswire reported.
The worst situation in finding the funds needed to increase the salaries of nurses to the minimum level is in small hospitals, especially in Rimavská Sobota, Revúca and Žiar nad Hronom, and in emergency rooms, she said, adding that bigger, state-run hospitals are better prepared to implement the law since nurses in those facilities already earn more than nurses in smaller facilities.
Lévyová has called on administrators of hospitals to discuss finding the money to hike the nurses’ salaries with health insurers.
