Year in review and trends for 2006
THE YEAR 2005 saw Slovakia swept up in a rush of major international and domestic events, beginning with the US-Russia summit between Presidents George Bush and Vladimir Putin in the Slovak capital in February, and concluding with dramatic domestic political developments at the end of the year.
Nitra: Fairgrounds expanding exhibition area
AGROKOMPLEX-Výstavníctvo Nitra, a major exhibition company in south-central Slovakia, saw an increase in foreign exhibitors in 2005.Ladislav Švihel, general manager of Agrokomplex - Výstavníctvo, said Nitra estimates that the number of exhibitors increased by 6 percent year-on-year in 2005 to more than 3,000 companies. The amount of exhibition space rented grew by 12 percent.
Post-integration foreign policy takes a new path
FOLLOWING several hectic years in which Slovak foreign policy focused almost exclusively on NATO and EU integration, a change occured in 2005.

December 1 - Network regulator ÚRSO announces price increases for natural gas, electricity, heat, drinking water and sewage services for 2006. Prices of water and sewage services for households will increase the most, up 23.3 percent while electricity prices for households will go up 5.02 percent on average. Natural gas prices for households will go up by 5.84 percent.
